Leave it to a bunch of enthusiasts to develop one of the best and most needed apps for the Wii. No corporation required.
Other than not being able to view large-ish mkv files, I’ve never had a real problem with any of the versions.
Very well done, and an inspiration to other developers on how to provide quality solutions for the good of all.
My Seagate 500 Gb formatted in FAT32 was determined WiiMC 1.2.5. But 1.2.5 worked badly under the Homebrew Channel v1.0.8. Constantly froze and fell out of DUMP. After installing the Homebrew Channel v1.1.0. everything was fine.
Thank you very much for your work.
After upgrading to the v1.2.6 the WiiMC can no longer read my SD Card even though it’s there… Because of this the online media is no longer working… can anyone help me with this? the wiiMC was working fine on the FAT32 Drives better than before so this is my only problem as of now…
Jesus!!! Not to argue or to complain but making upgrades after upgrades fixing minor things shouldn’t be necessary if you detected those issues first… Now, the 1.2.5 DID work for me regarding reading from the USB, I’m not really sure what everyone is talking about… MY suggestion to all?? INSTALL the channel on your wii, do not run it from the homebrew, I think thai is the problem… I will download this upgrade but let me tell you again, INSTALL the channel!! I’ve had no problem by doing that…
USB was working fine for me in 1.2.5…but since I saw a couple of immediate complaints – I went in and reverted any USB related changes to the release. Of course I can’t test every USB device myself before a release. I have also tried making pre-releases available for testing before a release – but I get virtually no feedback unless/until I actually make a release. It seems that’s the only way to get people to actually try it.
Thank you for Tantric making this app.
I rollbacked to 1.2.4 and all subs work fine.
And USB problems doesn’t happen on my atmosphere on 1.2.5 and 1.2.6.
Hello, I have the same problem with versions 1.2.3 and higher, when I come back to the Picture area from any other (video, music, etc) anytimes the program have a stuck dump. Version 1.2.2 works fine. I use a smb connection to my computer in a 4.1 U wii with all the IOS updated wiyh Pimp Up my Wii. Thank’s in advance for your help.
My 1TB Lacie USB HD has never worked with WiiMC and still doesn’t with this latest update and now the DVD subtitles have stopped working so I’ll have to rollback to an earlier version.
every time i pause a movie for longer then 5 something happens to my flash usb and from then on my wii will not reconise it using either wiimc or wiiexplorer but my pc reads it any ideas
After the upgrade, RMVB files no longer plays properly, some files are so pixelated that I can’t really watch it anymore, it’s played from a smb source, any info on how to downgrade please?
HI, I finally got the HMC on my wii and discovered WIIMC. It is great! but I do have a question! and only one. I bought my Wii on April of 2012, after I installed MCWII, I tried to play a DVD and i got a message: “DVD playback is not supported on this Wii”, so my question is: Since it is a new Wii (early 2012) I understand that maybe Nintendo did something to it so DVD playback could not be possible, Are you guys working on an update to accomodate the new Wiis?
first, I would like to congratulate you for wiimc, this homebrew is just amazing!!!
After I want to report a bug… using v1.2.6 the rmvb files are not rendering correctly, it looks some squares and blurry images. It was not occurring for v1.2.4 at the same videos.
Same problem as mentioned by earlier users. Switching from for instance Music playing to Pictures results in death screen. Never had that before the 1.2.3 version.
When playing music from smb, connection seems to drop although signal is excellent. Results in stopping playback after 1st track of the playlist. This does not happen when played back from a HD.
This is most def my favorite media player ever, it’s always run fun, only issues I have are .mp4 files go out of sync, also, I don’t have a sensor bar, so navigaitng via wiimote or classic controller would be nice, esp when there’s a new update, I can’t pick yes or no with the controller. That’s really frustrating when I want to watch something right away but can’t cause I can’t get past the update screen.
Other than that, GREAT work guys!
Would there be any interest in supporting 576p output in WiiMC? It’s probably a niche feature compared to 480p support, but it would be ideal for watching PAL-formatted DVDs, which are 576-line rather than 480. The Wii is certainly capable of it, and few tools would benefit more from it than a video player.
seems like that in the latest versions the subtitles in hebrew are displayed backwards.
except that work perfectly fine with my HDD and almost no crashes at all.
You may also purchase a different DVD drive (from an online vendor) for your Wii, but you will need to install it yourself. This is cheaper than purchasing a new Wii, however, you can find ‘older & compliant’ used Wii’s, for relatively cheap these days. I have installed a DVD drive in my ‘newer’ Wii, and it was none too difficult, -yet it did cost me around $80 for the DVD drive. :-/
The problem is that Nintendo has altered the chipset on the newer DVD drives so that they WILL NOT play movie DVD’s. I am not sure if there is a software work-around for these newest chipset drives, but an older chipset DVD drive WILL play movie DVD’s with the proper homebrew software modification.
every 25 minutes the frame change, either too high/wide or too short/low, go out of the film and in again for it to be normal, and the same again after 25 minutes. Frame dropping is turned off, and the frame rate set at 16/9
Fast forwarding on youtube/online media doesn’t work properly anymore. The sound goes out but the playback speed remains the same. Other than that no real issues here (I don’t really use the music/pics stuff). Keep up the great work Tantric!
G. :After this update, all subtitle doesnβt work.Appear 0.5sec, disappear.
First video: subtitle ok
Second(sometimes the third) video: sometimes subtitle works, sometimes not. Tried to disable/enable subtitles but does not work. I have to exit WiiMC and starts again. then subtitles works again.
I couldnt find a logic to the disapearing of the subs. Sometimes works, sometimes not.
The only thing I know for sure is that the first video played, after running wiimc, the subs always appear.
I did some tests and WiiMC runs MKV (AVC) files converted to AVI (XVID) with this resolutions without LAG:
1280 x 720 (100%) – YES
1268 X 714 (99%) – YES
1216 X 684 (95%) – YES
1152 x 648 (90%) β YES
1024 x 576 β YES
896 x 504 β YES
768 x 432 β YES
Is the AVC/H.264 – Advanced Video Coding – the guilty of the video LAG on Wii?
After I converted mkv files(AVC/H.264 format) vides to AVI (xvid) using “Format Factory” using those % above I succeed to play them without LAG.
Now I run a batch file that runs format factory each time I download a mkv file and it convert automatically.
High resolution with no lag! =)
Hey i was wondering if there was any way to get a usb external dvd drive to work with this current version of wiimc, my wii is a black one to let you all know
I play mostly using SMB, after every episode/film it can’t read the folder any more. Going to the Wii home screen and back into WiiMC enables the network anew, this worked fine in the previous (1.2.4) I had.
After this update, all subtitle doesn’t work.

Please fix the audio configuration. The main language of my kids is Spanish and can not fully enjoy movies.

unless u buy the older white wii or exchange the disc drive by opening it, theres nothing u can do.
Still the same issue when trying to go from music to pictures. System dump! Now my Wii is black screen!?

I too have problems with pictures, using smb …everything else is working fine…
I play mostly using SMB, after every episode/film it can’t read the folder any more. Going to the Wii home screen and back into WiiMC enables the network anew, this worked fine in the previous (1.2.4) I had.
Let the video play for 30mins then came back, the video stuck at wiimc screen so i have to manually power off the wii
I think I’ll go back to the previous ver since it doesn’t have the issue
