The folder settings for video/music/pictures are not retained if they are empty. I manually entered my folder settings including the trailing back slash. The first time I selected them all from the icons, an empty folder was displayed. Additional selection via the icon displayed the top level screen with USB Mass Storage and Data DVD. I then put files in all three folders and the settings are now retained. I would think that the folder settings should not get wiped out if the folders are empty.

May 13, 2010 at 6:51 am #24859dagger2bParticipantPerhaps I spoke to soon. I just downloaded and installed 1.03 and folder settings are getting wiped out. Perhaps the problem was never fixed in 1.02. I think I did not test it enough. My original post that the settings were not retained if the folder was empty does not seem to be the problem with 1.03. This problem exists for all media folder settings. Here are the steps to reproduce the problem…
1. Set folder path for any of the Media types.
2. Click the icon for the media type. The folder will be displayed with or without files in the folder.
3. Now continue to press Up One Level to move back up the directory tree until you reach the top.’
The Screen should now display USB Mass Storage and Data DVD.
4. Now click the icon again for the media type and nothing happens.
5. Check the folder setting again for the media type and it will now be blank.Tantric can you please fix this problem? Thanks for your support…
May 13, 2010 at 7:21 am #24860rodriesKeymasterThat’s not a bug. The path follows you wherever you go and remembers the last place you were. On exit, that is saved.
May 13, 2010 at 11:15 am #24861dagger2bParticipantHi Tantric,
Thanks for your reply and explanation. So the folder paths are dynamic. What is the point in having a user configurable settings that will be overridden by the application on exit? This means that a user can never go up a level or the settings will get changed if they do not go back down before exiting the app. I would think that most folks would have static folders where they store their media. In my case I have a root folder called media. Under media I have sub folders video, music, and pictures. It is of course possible and likely to have sub folders under video, music, and pictures. I can see remembering the last sub folder under video, music or pictures but not anything above the root folder for the media type. Would it be possible to add an option to make the media folder settings static? Or at least static to the media specific root folder (i.e. Video, Music, Pictures)?
Thanks for all your hard work on this app. It is without question the slickest most professionally written app available for the Wii. Thanks for your support…
May 13, 2010 at 12:53 pm #24862romo1925ParticipantI thought this too. Posted it into the feature section
http://www.wiimc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=212&p=780&hilit=dynamic#p780I proposed that there was an option to have that address as dynamic or static.
I have a lot of folders organising my videos and music and think it would be great to be fixed.
I don’t think it would be a massive thing to impliment but I am no coder.Great work Tantric I love WiiMC
June 2, 2010 at 4:40 pm #24863dagger2bParticipantDoes anyone else but Pitchuk and I agree on this one?
June 5, 2010 at 4:08 am #24864cadbuscaParticipantYes, I do too. Just noticed that my settings have SMB folders set for Music and Pictures and I never set them! I guess that they inherited the current directory I was on when I clicked the Music and Picture buttons in error. Very confusing but I need to think about a better solution.
June 11, 2010 at 4:40 am #24865dagger2bParticipantThat is what I am talking about jhb50. I think it confuses allot of people. I wish Tantric would consider giving the user the option of the folder settings being dynamic or static. If anyone else has an opinion on this issue then please post it.
June 14, 2010 at 4:38 am #24866cadbuscaParticipantI have requested the addition of a “Lock” option under settings as #134 in the tracker. This would let the user choose to keep the setting at the time it is “locked”.
June 16, 2010 at 11:32 pm #24867cadbuscaParticipantReported to be implemented in 1.0.5
July 4, 2010 at 1:37 pm #24868cadbuscaParticipantAfter looking at this more deeply there are in fact multiple ways of saving and recalling folders when switching modes( Video/Music/Pictures/OnLineMedia ) and at Startup. Its not just a matter of Locking them as requested in #134. I have therefore modified the #134 request to work as follows:
The default WIIMC action is to remember and always recall the last used folder in each mode (Use Locked Folders = Never). The problem with that is that when begining a new session, the startup folders will be set to those last used in the previous session and may need to be adjusted back to a preferred starting folder, so an option to recall a preferred Locked Folder at startup yet recall the last used folder within the session may be preferred. (Use Locked Folders = At Startup}. A third option to always recall a preferred Locked Folder when switching modes (Use Locked Folders = Always) may also be useful when one prefers to always start each mode at a particular folder. Lastly the ability to apply these options individually to each mode rather than globally, offers full flexibility.
With this implementation, when the Lock Folders value in Settings is set to (Never) the Folder value stored in Settings for each mode will change dynamically with each folder used in that mode. The Folder value for each mode may be Locked at its current value by changing the Global Lock Folders value to (At Startup) or (Always) or to (Use Local) if the Lock Folders value in the Setting for each mode are to be set and used instead.
