I think that if you are passing through the video list (or music list) if you stay on a video e.g. 2 sec with no moving the cursor, a preview at the right side of the screen can play. (small box, not full screen) . The preview can play e.g. 1 over 20 seconds of video, or play a random 30 second in a row from the video. The same can be done to the other features like music (playing 10 sec of the song), picture folder (some random pics from the folder for 1sec each) ect.
