    Hello,
I am new at homebrew and wii. However, I have successfully connected my wii to my share folder (on XP Professional Windows machine). I am attempting to play a video; the video only plays for 4 seconds maximum, then pauses, and then the bufffer increases slowly until I get the next several seconds. In the meantime, I also have no access to controls to pause, stop, play, etc.

I am on a home network, linksys E3000 router. My wii is about 2 years old. I just installed homebrew and apps – so they are all very recent versions.

Is there a simple setting that I can change that I am missing, or is this playback typically so slow? The video format is VOB. The video is in German; I assume that since it plays, that the region is not a factor. What are the most efficient (acceptable quality, but high speed to avoid buffering) movie file types for this player and wii?

I appreciate any help, as I really looked forward to playing videos from my share drive. I have not tried to play from a locally connected USB drive.

VOB’s by spec are MPEG-2 files with bit rates up to 9mbps. My experience is that you can play up to around 3.5mbps over SMB without buffering interuptions. That is roughly the video bit rate on a 2 hour DVD. You are pushing that limit. DIVX avis are typically in the 1mbps range and play fine. But AVC encoded videos with width over 640pixels will not play because they need more cpu power to decode than the WII has.
