I have noticed that audio on video mp4 files are out of sync. The audio seems to be ahead of the video I believe. I know it is not the mp4 file that is the issue because i can play it on VLC player and on MPlayer CE on my Wii without any issue. Any ideas on what would be causing this? below I have posted as much information as I can about one particular mp4 file that does this:

Same problem here – and unlike you, I have exactly the same issue on MPlayer CE. It’s annoying, since mp4 is fast becoming the new standard. But I guess if the Wii’s hardware can’t handle it, there’s not much we can do.

Here is one example file of a mp4 that audio is out of sync if someone wants to check it out. The name of the file is: American.Idol.S11E22.HDTV.x264-MOMENTUM

I will not post a link to the file here as I am not sure if I can. But if you search for it online you will find it. Here is the info from the video file. Once again this file plays fine in mplayer ce on my wii.

Any video wider than 640 pixels may be beyond the ability of the WII to decode it. This file is an example of that. The audio plays in real time but the video lags, causing the audio to be out of sync.

Then why does the video play just fine when I play it on my wii using mplayer ce? Both of the above referenced files I mention play fine in Mplayer CE on my Wii. Wimmc on the other hand the audio is out of sync. Also I failed to mention this before but at times the audio will be in sync for a bit in the mentioned mp4 files and then suddenly go out of sync. Then it will go back in sync for a bit. Then back out of sync. Its kind of back and forth. This is not an issue when I use mplayer CE. Maybe I am the only one having this issue? I hope this can possibly be figured out. Anything I can do to help figure it out let me know.

That’s a good question and maybe one that Tantric can explain. Do you know what version/level of MPlayer your CE is at? WIIMC is at the latest levels so perhaps there has been some regression. I too would expect them to play the same file succesfully. I’ve tried to play your file with some older versions and they either hangup or have the same problem.

I am using Mplayer CE Release 658 which is the last one that was released (which was 2011). It can be downloaded here: https://code.google.com/p/mplayer-ce/downloads/list
I am using the latest verison of WiiMC 1.2.4 and it has the same issue. I am glad you experienced the same issue I did. Hopefully someone can figure out why this is happening.

Try enabling the option to drop frames in the video settings. That should keep the audio in sync.
