I am running latest vlc-shares on Windows XP. I am no longer able to shut down vlc streams. The dashboard indicates- VLC state: not spawned. This issue started recently and I am not sure what has changed to cause this. I have reinstalled vlc-shares as well as vlc with no success. I can stream videos but, when I want to stop the video I am no longer given the option to shutdown and I must stop all vlc streams in the Windows task manger. My wife’s laptop running Windows 7 64-bit does not have this problem. Any ideas or suggestions?

XP Home or XP Professional?
May 31, 2011 at 3:34 pm #29092lokiMidgardParticipantOK I submitted the issue in the tracker. I am running XP home. As stated previously, vlc-shares works well until recently on this computer. Also, I did not see a way to clear the log of old data- is there a way to do that?
June 1, 2011 at 6:25 am #29093zany130Participantvlc-shares requires the tasklist command that is not available in XP HOME. I hope you added the tasklist.exe file in WIndowsSystem32 folder.
Anyway, i made some changes in r579. Apply changes and confirm, please.
To clear the log:
you only have to go inside the %TMP directory (start->execute->type %TMP->press Enter) and delete the vlc-share.debug.log file.PS:
reading your debug log i found this problem also:
[31/05/2011 16:47:09] [EEE] (MegavideoController::premiumAction:446) Error while writing jar file. Check permissions. Everything will work, but much more slower
Check “vlc-shares/data/” folder permissions. It looks like is not writable
PPS:
Can i ask you why you use transcoded mode for megavideo files? Doesn’t it work well in direct mode? (i’m just curious)
June 1, 2011 at 1:42 pm #29094lokiMidgardParticipantThank you I will check into this today. I only used transcoded mode on Megavideo to try to recreate the problem. I first noticed the issue when I was using transcoded mode on a H.264 encoded movie from my PC.
June 1, 2011 at 6:33 pm #29095lokiMidgardParticipantChanging the folder permissions seems to have fixed the issue. What is the official method to apply trunk changes? Delete old data then copy and paste new data into the file?
June 2, 2011 at 6:57 am #29096zany130ParticipantReplace the file (library/X/Vlc/Adapter/Windows.php) with the updated one (https://vlc-shares.googlecode.com/svn-history/r579/trunk/library/X/Vlc/Adapter/Windows.php
)June 3, 2011 at 2:14 am #29097lokiMidgardParticipantGot it. Thank you Ximarx!
January 12, 2013 at 5:05 pm #29098marwan330ParticipantI had the same problem with an install of VLCShares: 0.5.4, VLC vlc-1.1.9-win32.exe on a fresh install of Win7 Pro. I am using an older version of WiiMC .
I found the solutions was to change/reapply Full Control permissions to the USER group within c:Program FilesVLCShares . I did this same thing originally upon install of VLC Shares, so I am unsure why it did not stick. I do run VLC Shares under a User with Limited User rights, so that I don’t attract viruses, spyware and such. This is my torrent machine as well 🙂 Easy way to stop all sorts of crudowear.
EDIT: I have not yet done Xmarks change to library/X/Vlc/Adapter/Windows.php as I want to see how the Permissions change fixes the issue.
