Instalation questions

I’ve been reading the WiiMC Wiki here http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/WiiMC seeking for instructions about installing the WiiMC for the first time. The only question I’ve got is this:

I’ve got HBC 1.0.6, and I don’t want to upgrade to HBC 1.0.8 because everything works just fine for me, and I don’t want to screw up something. Can I install only the IOS58 with this installer: http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/IOS58_Installer or I have to install HBC 1.0.8 too? I’m not going to use any channel forwarder nor the Wii’s internal DVD player, only my external USB Hard drive and I’ll launch the WiiMC from the HBC.

You can’t use IOS58 with HBC 1.0.6. So if you stick on 1.0.6, you will be stuck with slow USB1.1

i am very much in the same position as anbidan. the only difference is i’m playing videos thru SMB share. so do i still need to install IOS58 and update to the latest HBC?

i’ve been using wiimc 1.0.4 and i’m interested to use the latest wiimc release but don’t have the courage to tinker with my wii as everything is working.
