    Hi,

Hopefully an easy one this, I’m just not very good with Networks and I’ve just got a WD MyBookLive.

I have a couple of movie folders, one suitable for my son, one for 15+ movies.

I’m having trouble connecting to the drive. I have used the Network page in settings on WiiMC before but never got it to work. (a Win XP thing I think – I now run Win7)

It needs to be a WiFi connection.

Could someone tell me what I need to put in each window?

    Should it be SMB?

Do I need to do something on the PC or MyBookLive first?

I’ve tried lots of combinations, here’s one I thought would work:

    SMB
Display name: anything I like I think
Share IP: the IP of the MyBookLive
Share name: mybooklive (this is its name, not sure if it needs to be case specific?)
Username: my user for the MyBookLive, I tried the admin access to all folders name.
Password: password for the above user.

Do you think this is right? or am I doing something wrong?

    Cheers

This link explains how to setup a SMB share for Win-7.You can skip steps #2. and #3. if you want,it will still work.If your WD-Mybook is a DNLA device it will not connect.SMB or Samba will only work with Windows shared folders.
Some steps will be different if your using Windows Homegroup to share.

Hi, and thanks for your response.

The WD does have DNLA and also SMB is enabled.

But do you mean it won’t work as it doesn’t have windows shared folders?

That’s all instructions to get into your Win PC isn’t it? this is a NAS running Linux.

I have seen some links for Linux and NAS in the fourms.Try searching for Nas or Linux.I think it has to do with your settings file for the NAS or the smb/net bios type your running on it. I think a few users have got this to work with some tweeking. I’ll try to find the links when I get a chance.

erm.. got it working. didn’t need hacking or tweaking I simply must have entered some info wrong.

If anyone ends up here on a search:

    Use SMB

IP address is the one for the MBL
share name is simply the share 🙂
Use admin user and password to see if that works first.

    Couldnt be simpler!
