    I have a WD Essentials 3TB USB 3.0 Harddrive.
    – Crashes WiiMC
    – Crashes HBC
    – When I try to run the USB tester app, I plugged in the drive when asked, and when I started the test, it crashed.
    – CFG USB Loader v70, however, works fine. I mention it because you guys said that a library you were using was the cause of the incompatibility, so I thought you could have a look and see what CFG is using, and use that instead.

Working with USB Loader GX, but isn’t recognized by WIIMC at all. I ran the USB drive tester, passed all except wake up.

My RocketFish 3.5″ USB Pata enclosure for my WD 160 eIDE drive actually works wonderfully in WiiMC, but I can’t get it to work in any usb loaders for games. I’ve tried cIOS 249 with base 58 with no luck in WiiFlow, CFG, or USB Loader GX. Any ideas as to how to get loaders to work? Is WiiMC doing anything special that the loading programs aren’t doing?

    Hi stonefish,
I reported this as a bug, write a comment and support it and hopefully Tantric will fix it soon.

If you want a temp fix, it will only work if you have NTFS partitions, (no fat32 or it will crash) check out this post.

    Hi Folks,

I recently have modded a new blue Wii (purchased at Wallmart for $109) for a friend. I gave him a shopping list of a harddrive and sd card to buy as well at the local electronics store. The store clerk gave him a Seagate Expansion 1TB usb 3.0 (SSEAN1-572) drive instead of the requested Seagate Expansion 1TB usb 2.0 drive (9SC2A6-572).

Now iN WiiMC, when WiiMC is reading movies/TV shows off the harddrive, WiiMC is crashing. The drive is formated as Fat32 (and I am not going to change that for compatibility reasons with the rest of the apps). Should we just return this drive, complaining to the store about there mistake and downgrade to the usb 2.0 drive, or is there a patch out there to allow the Wii to work with a usb 3.0 drive with stability :geek: .

Nothing else seems to fail, Mplayer works fine, Mighty Channels seems to load games slowly… but works (one minutes load time per VC, Wiiware game). Nothing else seems to be crashing. The fellow will be using the Wii to read Movies/TV Shows from the hard drive only as he it taking it to his vacation property only (no internet or network).

It’s running d2x ver 2.2 installer to CIOS 248 and 247. I tried the d2x 3.1 installer but it still crashed WiiMC on the usb 3.0 drive.

    Any ideas ?

Is WiiMC using IOS58? If not, fix that and try again.

If it is, you’re not going to get better USB compatability. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. It’s unlikely anyone will step up and fix it for you. If that’s the case I’d suggest returning the drive and finding one that works.

Do you have another drive (or a pen drive) to test with, just to make sure it is indeed a problem with USB incompatibility and not some other problem?

    Hi Tantric,

Thanks for your help, by the way, your software is awesome and Kudos to you. I am starting to get into WiiXplorer now, just try to get SMB support working correctly (thinking of copying the smb.conf from Mplayer to the WiiXplorer directory), but that is another story.

    Current configuration for WiiMC:
    Homebrew 1.0.8 using IOS58 V 24.32
    WiiMC 1.2.2 using IOS 58

Tried a regular Lacie usb 2.0 1TB drive, flawless

The issue though it somewhat intermittent, sometimes it will work for hours, other times it crashes WiiMC. The drive does have a green mode (Seagate) on it which I completely disabled, so that should not be the issue, but it is a usb 3.0 drive, which has me concerned. I assume WiiMC+ usage would have completely no difference.

Configurable USB Loader works well, All emulators work (fat32), Mighty Channels works but is slow on each game load, all other apps work.

Do you think I should run the usb drive tests and post the results ? It might be useful.

To add more to the mix, I have been watching a number of videos off the Seagate usb 3.0 drive over the past few hours and…. no crash, but it was doing lots of crashes earlier today. Does having Wifi enabled (but still viewing off the local drive) vs non-Wifi enabled (and viewing off the local drive) have any bearing on WiiMC’s operations ? That is the only thing I have adjusted between crashing and non-crashing.

    Hi All,

I understand that most of the usb drive compatibility for WiiMC comes out of libogc , but it seems all other Wii apps work well with zero crash problems on usb 3.0 , except WiiMC. Wondering if some genital encouragement/pressure could be put on the libogc team for usb 3.0 support, due to greater limitations now in being able to purchase new usb 2.0 drives. I would estimate that in about 6 months sourcing usb 2.0 drives will become very difficult, so… it might be a good idea that we address this issue sooner. Maybe a “switch” could be included within WiiMC , so adding usb 3.0 drive support, would not break traditional usb 2.0 drive use.

    Respectfully,

    lelton

p.s. My setup is running a Seagate STAY1000102 usb 3.0 1TB drive. It has it’s own power supply, most stable setup seems to be in turn the Wii on first, boot, then the drive afterwards. This method “reduces” crashes in WiiMC but does not eliminate entirely. Running over “SMB only” has zero WiiMC crashes. I will get a log_usb.txt , just my daughter rebooted the Wii after running the tests overnight, so it looks like I need to rerun the tests, overnight… and have a conversation with my daughter 🙂

Your 2.5HDD log is strange. Try again please, be sure to switch off & on when unplug, to reset your device, and wait about 10 secs before press A to be sure your device is up & spininng

I’ve got a Western Digital MyBook Essential 3TB drive. If I open WiiMC with with it plugged in, WiiMC crashes (DSI Exception). The same goes for the usb test app. I’m not sure what the exact error is since it only stays up for a second. I’m happy to provide more info or try any suggestions.

Weird, try to reinstall ios58 (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/IOS58_Installer) then try to reinstall hbc to use that ios
Now try the usb test app

Question rodries, I am having issues with a Seagate STAY1000102 USB 3.0 1TB drive (get Exception (DSI) occurred!”and I want to follow your advice to reinstall ios58, then hbc (both WiiMC and HBC have been confirmed to be running ios58, but I thought I would reinstall anyways and try again). I also run D2x (ver 2.2 installer) to get “Block IOS Reload”. Would I need to reinstall D2x as well after the ios58 reinstall and HBC reinstall? I install D2x in slot 247 and 248 only. I don’t want to break the D2x update. What would you suggest ?

    Thanks in advance,
    lelton

I am using a 2TB usb 2.0 drive, formated as one large fat32 drive. WiiMC WORKS, but sometimes after 1 hour of video watching, it crashes WiiMC… which auto reloads into HBC.

If I formated this drive as entirely NTFS would WiiMC magically work ?

I am looking at Libntfs here:
    http://code.google.com/p/libntfs-wii/updates/list

or does libfat already have support incorporated into it for 2TB fat32 drives ?

I would try reformating and reload. Maybe try using fat32format.exe . 2TB external enclosure works well for me for Config USB Loader using D2Xv7-final, but it’s freshly formated fat32. I am though having the reverse problem, WiiMC is crashing after 1 hr of play.

    Install D2Xv7-final slot 247, Base 57, revision 21007
    Install D2Xv7-final slot 248, Base 56, revision 21007
    Install D2Xv7-final slot 249, Base 56, revision 21007
Configurable usb loader on slot 248
Mighty Channels works perfectly, slot 249 by default

Question 1) when I run a System Check and get this in the csv log
    “IOS58 (rev 6176): USB 2.0”
Does that mean I have the right version of IOS58 installed ? Note, I AM NOT running Darkcorp, this is a Mauifrog mod, System Manager 4.1. As well IOS58 Installer is giving me “Update Failed” error. I have read that this can be ok, unless running Darkcorp. 😕

    Question 2)
Can/does IOS58 have the ability to deal with “green” drives effectively like D2Xv6 and above can? For example, will running WiiMC, which uses IOS58 going to prevent a “green” usb drive from spinning down, while WiiMC is running ?

    Question 3)
on the line above “Homebrew 1.0.8 using IOS58 V 24.32”, what is the V24.32 in reference to? Seems IOS58 is rev 6176 as per System Check
