Hello, sorry for my very bad english but i have a problem.
I have a wii with firmware 3.2, cios waninkoko rev 20, cios hermes, startpatch with patch healt screen, wiimc 1.1.0 with channel 1.5, ios58 installed correctly but when i watch any .avi witm wiimc ( or mplayerce) through SAMBA the wii FREEZE after about 18-20 minute.
3-4 months ago it worked. I installed only starpatch and version 1.1.0. I have tested the versione 1.0.0.8-9 and mplayer. The problem is same.
I have installed a FTP Server on my PC for try to watch through FTP. The problem is equal. the WII FREEZE.
For restore the wii i must press the RESET button for 5 seconds.
The problem is that the wireless is intermmintent, connection goes down and after one second returns on.
This is the log of my FTP Server:

    FREEZE

I did several tests but to no avail, anyone have any ideas on what’s the problem and how to solve it?

    Thanks

Use Inssider to check for other routers on your WII channel and change the channel if there is interference. I have no problems playing my .avi via SMB. Also be sure there are no other 54mhz wireless devices nearby like wireless phones, baby monitors etc.

    I experience the same problem.
I can watch a movie for about 30 min, then problem starts.
Wii MC will start buffering. The buffering will accure every minute. And ultimately the movie will freeze.

I noticed the connection to the Wii seems to slowdown and drop. Sometimes the connection restores and some times it completly freezes. When the movie continues, the problem wil come back every few minutes. (At this point i give up watching the movie this way).

I use a wireless connection. I tested the connection to my Wii. (simultaneously sending a ping to my Wii (and to my laptop next to the Wii) from a 3rd computer).
The ping to the Wii shows packet loss, but not to the laptop. So the signal strenght is not a problem.

I use wii 3.4 and iso38. I did not have this problem with earlier versions of WIIMC.
Any suggestions how to fix this problem?

SOLVED – put the IP manually in the wii settings

I finally managed to fix the problem.
In connection settings of the wii you have to put the IP MANUALLYinstead of automatic (DHCP creates problems).
I watched a DivX smoothly for over an hour (after the first 20 minutes was going to freeze).
    Hope this help.

    😀 😀 😀 😀

    Thanks.
    See you soon.

This is not very helpful/clear. When you create an SMB, WIIMC automatically enters the first part of the ip and all you have to do is complete it. Seems to me that is the automatic part, and replacing it with a name to be resolved by DHCP is the manual option. Could you be more explicit about what you did and why you chose to override the ip with a name to be resolved? Thanks.

Go to wii menu — settings — connection settings — select wirelles and set ip manually instaed automatic and assign ip to your wii ( i use 192.168.178.24 ).
Restart wiimc, create a smb link and retry.

The ip manually is in the wii settings not in the wiimc, ok?

hi ( sorry for my english :PP )

jhb50 – I’ve heard this from rodries in the past too. I don’t have an explanation for it though.

I have my Wii set to DHCP, but my router assigns it a static IP.

    Ah, now its clear.

So for others, the WII settings provide the WII with an IP, and the WIIMC settings use that IP when setting up an SMB. If both are assigned a Static address which I do, then there are no problems. If the WII is set to assign the IP automatically, I don’t know what IP address you use when setting up SMB on WIIMC, and apparently it can create the problem referenced in this thread.

I offer this opportunity to thank Tatric, Rodries and all others who contributed to this perfect program. 😀

Can you or I to mark the thread with [SOLVED]?
