I seriously don’t know what everybody’s complaining about. Ok, so the update was broken. No big deal- it’s not like we can’t roll back and wait for 1.0.6. Every dev releases a broken update once in a while. Hell, one of the software vendors at my work basically used our office as a closed beta (we’d get “priority” on any fixes/updates, we’d complain about what all was broken in the newest version, they’d fix it, and then roll it out to all their other customers– we were paying them so we could beta test their crap).

Tantric, the program is awesome, and I look forward to 1.0.6. Hell– I’m sticking with 1.0.5, because I dig the on-screen volume control in audio mode, and because my media server crapped out on me anyway this week, so I may as well change my whole set-up. (Looking for a power supply for my USB hub to test my theory and see if it would actually handle both my WBFS and media HDD through port0; if not, no big deal.)

This leads me to believe that your SD card is corrupted; pop it out, put it into your PC, and do a full format (best way is to get into command prompt, and “format /fs:fat32 X:” (no quotes, and X is the name of whatever drive your SD is read as). Bit of a PITA, but it’s the easiest way to deal with a corrupted card.

Of course, I could just be talking out of my ass.

A media player that JUST plays media? For shame!

Seriously, though– you want to listen to music while browsing the web? Turn on the radio. The Wii was not built to multi-task- it’s as simple as that.

The biggest reason I could think of for wanting to be able to hide/view hidden folders would be to allow users to lock down certain folders (for instance, if one were to have kids’ movies as well as movies inappropriate for children on their hard drive, it would be nice to be able to only allow general access to all users, while other folders or files would require either more work to get to, or some sort of login credentials).

The biggest issue with covers for movies, I would assume, is that, unlike with USB loaders for games, there’s no standardized naming convention for movies. The easiest ways around this would be to either have some sort of cross-reference running in the background that searches a particular database for cover art based on tags created by the filename (which could substantially slow down WiiMC, and possibly require a dedicated server to house said database, to maintain image quality and consistency of resolution/file type), require a standardized naming format for all video files (based on whatever service is being used to collect the cover art), or maintenance of cover art on a personal basis (ie, you download the images yourself, and store them in a specific folder on your SD card, and rename the movie and art to match each other). Anyway you go, it seems like a pain in the ass, for not much gain. Yeah, it looks pretty, but WiiMC looks pretty anyway, compared to other options on Wii. I don’t think Tantric, et al, are trying to make the ultimate, be-all-end-all media application. I think they’re trying to make the best media app for Wii, which they’re already miles ahead on.

The only half-way reasonable solution I can come up with that would satisfy those wanting some sort of art, and yet not be a total PITA for everyone writing the thing would be some sort of option to grab a thumbnail from each file. But again- do you house the thumbnails persistently, or have them generated at the start of each WiiMC session (which would take a lot longer to load)?
