If the subtitles are in a separate SRT or SUB file (with the same name as the AVI) they should work fine, but embedded subs have been tricky.
I have a similar problem with MKV files that contain embedded subs (japanese anime videos, with dual jp/eng audio and soft subs). Up to version 1.0.8 the subtitles worked fine, I can resize them, change color, or turn them on and off…. but if I upgrade to a higher version of WiiMC, the subs vanish and I cannot turn them on (I checked all the config options, and they are set the same as with 1.0.8).
I have tried auto upates, re-downloading and manually copying WiiMC to the SD card, but nothing… I have to stay on 1.0.8 or else the subs don’t work.
Is there a solution for this? Because playback performance and compatibility has improved a lot in the newer versions (I have tested them) but I don’t want to lose subtitle support for MKVs, as WiiMC is the only player I know that supports both audio switching and subtitles.
Same here and it’s a shame because 480p Anime work fine, but without subtitles, they are useless to me.

Another question: when using ubuntu, the source file is on a ntfs partition?Yes the same version and yes ntfs partition. The ntfs partition could be the problem here.

Try updating vlc to 1.1.4. If you want to transcode HD (1080p or 720p) files, you must have a proper hardware for that…
Anyway, for db-readonly related errors: open a terminal. Go to your vlc-shares directory and type:
sudo chmod a+rwx -R data/ && sudo chown -R www-data:www-data data/
I already said that the transcoding on windows 7 is better than on ubuntu, it has nothing to do with my hardware. Are there some tweaks for the VLC Params?
October 10, 2010 at 12:40 pm in reply to: Watch Megavideo,HD,Youtube w/ CC through WiiMC (VLCShares) #26374fishearsParticipantI need some help on Ubuntu. The Windows Installations runs fine, but in Ubuntu I have some problems with the folder permissions: I get the error
* warning DB Error: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 8 attempt to write a readonly database
* warning Invalid languageI did chmod 777 for the folder /usr/www but it doesn’t help.
The weird thing is, if I open Nautilus as sudo and view the folder permissions, I see them still as read only.
Edit: OK I figured it out. For all Ubuntu-Users with the same problem:
- open terminal and type sudo nautilus
navigate to the var folder right-click on the www folder and go to properties>permissions.
Select the user www-data as owner and group and enjoy VLCShares on your Wii.
After a little bit of MKV-testing I came to the result, that the video quality while using Ubuntu is worse than while using Windows 7. The video is pixelated and get’s immediately out of sync, it actually plays too fast. Can I do some tuning to prevent this?
fishearsParticipantWith the new release, 480p MKVs play fine, but the subtitles are gone. Do I have to change the subtitle coding and language? UTF-8 doesn’t work.
fishearsParticipantI reported this in the comments, it’s not just you. I tried to take a photo, but it only appears, when you play the movie. If I pause the movie, you can’t see it. Really weird, I play my files via SMB and never had this issue. It’s also not caused by a special video format.
I filmed a video, look at the top, the pixelation is not that much this time, in other videos it’s far worse.

I’ve checked the Romanian lang file and adapted it, here it is : http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?fdtzygqwomz
Compiled and working ok…Line 164: missing t comma for “retea”
Line 226: msgid “Play Order” I don’t think “Mod de redare” is a good translation, it should be “Ordinea de redare”.
Line 416: missing t comma for “initializeaza”.
Please send me your yahoo id via pm so we can make the translation together. :geek:

As promised the updated ro.lang with the Romanian t and the same file with a normal t ro2.lang until the display problems are fixed.:geek:
Skoopman, romanian translation is funny 😀
example :msgid “Username is blank.”
msgstr “Utilizatorul este gol.”“Utilizatorul este gol” means “The user is naked”.A better translation is “Nu ati completat numele utilizatorului”
I’ll check the entire file and I’ll make the corectionsUmm yeah sry didn’t see that. Romanian is not my native language although I am Romanian But we have to keep the translation as sort as possible, this translation is really funny, I’ll also check it again.

Yes, I see that. That means the font I’m using (Titillium) doesn’t contain that character. Either:
- Someone would have to create and add that character to the font file
- You will have to substitute the Romanian ‘t’ for a regular ‘t’.
Are you not using Liberation Sans? Anyway I looked something up and found this:
Liberation
The comma below glyphs were added in version 1.04 of the fonts, which are included in F9 updates as of July 27. Older versions lacked both comma-below code points, and followed the Adobe convention, having a t with comma at U+162/3. In 1.04 a proper “t cedilla” is provided.
So could you use Liberation instead of Titillium?
fishearsParticipantI will update the romanian language file later today or monday. I was busy so I couldn’t do it until now. I just updated to the newest version and saw, that the romanian t (t with a line under it) is not displayed correctly. Is there a way to fix this?
fishearsParticipantMP4 movies with H264 codec work also fine. I have a video playing with the resolution 688×288

When attempting to play the contents of an Audio folder, only the selected track plays then it stops instead of playing the next track in the list automatically. I’ve tried Random/Loop/Continuous/Single Play but only the initial track will play and then stop.
Is this something I’m doing wrong or a known bug?
mspL4
I think Random/Loop/Continuous/Single Play do only work in the playlist, at least for now. So add the folders to the playlist with the (+) button.

Not sure what libraries are providing the streaming functionality, but the experience of fast forwarding and rewinding is pretty negative due to the excessive buffering.
Are you watching via SMB? I do and the buffering takes around 2-3 secs. Check your wireless connectivity, it may be weak.
