I have the same issue with DVDs. I have an older Wii as well.

I can help you with the networking though :).

All you have to do is follow the directions in this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg3GBEeSm9U

After you have completed those steps, you will have an application called “crossftp server” that you will have running on your computer in the background which will be used by WiiMC.

Go into WiiMC, go to settings, Network, and create a new FTP server. Enter all the information it asks for (username and password you set up in the video; the folder you want to open the server into (can be left blank); and the ip address of your server which will be the same as that of your computer). To get the ip address you need to enter, go to the command prompt and type in the command “ipconfig”. A lot of information will flash by, so scroll up and find where it says “IPv4 address” or something similar. The address to the right of that is what you will enter into WiiMC.

After you complete these steps, your FTP server will be available whenever your computer is on and connected to the network. However, if you have a dynamic IP address, you will have to change that address in the network settings in WiiMC. So if you suddenly can’t get into the FTP server through WiiMC, make sure that:
    1. You comp is on
    2. “crossftp server” is on and running the server
    3. The Wii and your comp are connected to the net
    4. Your ip address hasn’t changed

If 1-3 check out, then go back to the command prompt and ipconfig to get the new ip and change it in WiiMC.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!
