GoveynetcomParticipant
I wonder if this is the same Samba Problem I has with a linkstation running Debian.
I think it has something to do with UTF-8 support. Versions of WiiMC before 1.04 seem to work ok with older versions of Samba. Newest versions seem to work better with newer versions of SambaThis is how I did it with the LS:

Also version 1.04 worked fine with the older version of samba, this is a known issue apparantly:

GoveynetcomParticipantI have a similar question, I wonder if the Samba implementation can handle this though. Is it possible to mount the SD card in the WII as a samba share?
GoveynetcomParticipantI put together a Wiki Page on the Buffalo Nas-Central wiki (the Linkstationwiki) on how to use WiiMC with the Linkstation (at least under debian)

I’ve never had this happen to me…
It happened to me a few times today, but in the middle of a video not the end, and then it goes to the black screen of death, it’s probably a low memory issue I would think.
GoveynetcomParticipantIs there any news on this?
The hardware seems so delicate, would a uPNP client be more gentle on it then Samba shares or not really?
GoveynetcomParticipantYou beat me to it!
My fileserver happens to be running Debian Lenny. I’m gathering this has something to do with UTF-8 support but I don’t know what. This worked in one of two ways:
1. With Samba 3.2.5 (which is Debian Lenny’s included package) and WiiMC v1.04. There is still some instability with Samba shares that have directories with alot of files/directories, it just seems to cause the whole system to crash.
Also USB media doesn’t work in this version well at all.2. With Samba 3.4.8 (which is from Debian Lenny’s backports repository) and WiiMC 1.09+. This has pretty good stability for large directories, and of course USB media works well in this release.
To enable backports you need to do the following-
From: http://www.backports.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=instructions
- 1. Add this line: deb http://www.backports.org/debian lenny-backports main contrib non-free to your /etc/apt/sources.list.
- 2. Run: apt-get update
- 3. Run: apt-get -t lenny-backports install samba
GoveynetcomParticipantMaybe this doesn’t work well with SAMBA but works ok with Microsoft Windows SMB/CIFS ?
