Apologies for bumping this, but the newest WiiMC update just made me remember this.
danielcw has it mostly right, Replay Gain is NOT a codec-dependent thing. Some codecs integrate it, but for most it is something done by post-processing via a simple gain adjustment tag. If the format can support tags, then it can support Replay Gain.
Besides, if it WERE at the codec level, then EVERY media player that can play, say FLAC, would automatically support Replay Gain – which is obviously not the case.
makoblasterParticipantBut you support FLAC and WavPack… those support Replay Gain.
And if you don’t support vorbis, then why is “OGG” listed under ‘Audio’ on here:
http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/WiiMC#Media_PlaybackmakoblasterParticipantThat’s funky. I can play FLAC files directly and via playing a folder from an SD card perfectly fine.
makoblasterParticipantNo replies at all? Geez, this is even the oldest topic currently. I guess nobody really DOES care about the volume differences between songs – that would explain Replay Gain’s lack of support in general.
I myself just can’t stand it, and using a dynamic range compressor is just detrimental to the sound quality.
makoblasterParticipantI’m having the same issue as well – I know the Wii supports my USB drive since it works on the Homebrew channel. However, I never did get it to work in MPlayer CE (It works back in the OLD MPlayerWii without the GUI)
At least it’s not TOO big of a deal since I have a 2GB SD card, but if Replay Gain tags don’t get supported I’m going to have to keep upsampling to 24bits via WaveGain… that’s going to take up too much space.
makoblasterParticipantI’m having the same issue – I cannot install the CIOS 202 (says “Error: Installation Failed!”).
