Wow, I totally agree on boondoklife’s idea. That would be amazing! No really, please implement that 💡
Yea, this is one function I miss from the old MPlayerCE builds. I work with a doctor that uses the wii in his children’s lobby to stream movies one after the other. I was going to update the system there with WiiMC but with out this function I can’t. 😕
On a side note, I really think the program should say “Now Playing” or “Playing” next to the movie name when you press the home button. It would really add a more professional touch, just my two cents though.
MatokingParticipantI hate to comment on this posting, since pista says it has been asked before, but the search option is not too friendly when it comes to this topic. For example a search of folder play next yeilds nothing, as it says the words are too common.
I was thinking, if the auto play feature is to be enabled for video files, then maybe it could be implemented as follows:
After the file is finished playing, assuming there are other files after the current one and in the same directory, it should come back to a screen similar to the one presented by pressing the home button. The difference would be at the bottom it would say something similar to:On the left: “Next in 10 seconds: Filename” On the right: “Cancel”
Instead of the displaying the current playing file and resume, one would see this and be able to cancel the playback of the next file. The seconds could be configurable and count down and then auto play if the bar is not clicked.

Thanks for your correction, I was absolutelly wrong!!! 🙂 For the interest of others, there is info in the Wikipedia pages on SMB, Samba and Netbios over TCP/IP.
What should be implemented to allow for computer names in WiiMC is the Netbios Name Service, which is not part of SMB. This service is implemented in Samba (called nmbd) but this is currently not part of Mplayer nor WiiMC. As you said, implementing it is possible, but implies a huge amount of work. I am sorry that I have not the time nor the expertise to contribute to this. Thanks for your coding effort and your kind answers! 🙂
Why would you want to bogg the wii down even more with a service that is not needed? Given that every drop of resources (processor cycles, available memory, etc.) helps make audio and video run better, why then eat it up with a bloated protocal? Either give the box a static IP or setup a local DNS it really is just that simple.

Sure, but DNS does not resolve Samba PC addresses if they are used in the IP field, does it? At least, I tried it in MPlayer-CE and it did’nt work: If I use my Windows “PC-NAME” instead of its IP, WiiMC cannot access the shared foolder.
The SMB listener is a part of the SMB implementation that (correct me if I am wrong) listens to SMB messages in the network and maintains an internal table of associations of SMB names, shared resources, and IP addresses. It would be nice if at least this listener was implemented, to prevent the commented problems. However, I understand that it is a huge amount of work; I don’t know if part of the Samba project might be used.
I am able to use the DNS name just fine in wiimc as well as my NES and SNES emulators. Not sure what else you could ask for. :ugeek:

Hello !
I’m resolving the problem with MyBook Blue Ring and SMB.
I must start Samba on deamon with a script, not with inetd.conf.1° Create a script “S08samba” in /etc/init.d/ with this:
#!/bin/sh
# set samba_active=1 to activate samba
samba_active=1
[ 1 = $samba_active ] || exit 0
if [ -n "`pidof smbd`" ] ; then
echo "Stopping smbd:"
killall smbd
fi
if [ -n "`pidof nmbd`" ] ; then
echo "Stopping nmbd:"
killall nmbd
fi
sleep 2
echo "Starting nmbd:"
/usr/local/samba/sbin/nmbd -D -s /etc/smb.conf
echo "Starting smbd:"
/usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd -D -s /etc/smb.conf2) edit inetd.conf in /etc and erase smb part
3) reboot your MyBook
And MyBook’s samba finally run with wiimc !
Actually this is not quite correct, I have a bluering myself and it works fine with out doing this. One thing you do need to do is make sure that you comment out an entry in inetd.con but put a different one in.
Edit /etc/inetd.conf
#netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd smbd -s/etc/smb.conf -l/var/log -d0
microsoft-ds stream tcp nowait root /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd smbd -s/etc/smb.conf -l/var/log -d0
Edit /etc/services (Make sure this line exists)
microsoft-ds 445/tcp # Microsoft Directory Service
This should force your box to listen on the correct ports and get it running.
MatokingParticipantI too would like to see an increase in the number of usable SMB shares.
MatokingParticipantI know this is not going to make all the windows people too happy, but why not just get a little linux box and have it run samba (or get adventurous and make it your PDC). I have a Western Digital MyBook World edition (750GB mirror raid) and it is the main storage for my network.
It is a headless network device that runs a specialized linux OS. But here is the great part, you can google and find a way to get other software on it and enable ssh access. From here the sky is the limits (oh and the ram and baby cpu heh). But realy you can configure samba how ever you want and bam your done. No more fighting with the misguided windows firewall nor the windows permissions game.
Again this will prolly not make the windows people too happy as there really is not a nice point and click way to do this, but if you put in the little bit of time to get it running you’ll love it.
MatokingParticipantThis doesnt work for me either, I know it was possible in Mplayer and I hope it can be part of wiimc.
