OK, let us know how the installation of your new drive goes.

I’ll only attempt that if I can be reasonably confident that it will work. It’s not a new drive, but rather I may be able to access an original Wii which I could potentially swap drives with.

It really blows my mind why so many people are trying to use a $300 WII in place of a $30 progressive scan DVD player, and then complain about the lack of function if they do get it to sort of work! Go by a DVD player on Amazon.

I’m not complaining, but I don’t think it should exactly blow your mind that people might want to try to use the Wii as a DVD player in addition to its other functions. Also, the Wii is currently $150, not $300, and it isn’t really unreasonable to think that a device with a DVD drive might possibly be able to play DVDs as well as DVD-based games, allowing for more convenience than having an additional dedicated device which plays only DVDs. If it really isn’t possible, then so be it, I can find a different solution easily enough, but I’m still going to try to do what seems to be the most elegant solution first.

What about replacing the DVD drive with one from an older Wii?
